Kaukamana Hale Subdivision

One just has to look at the beaches on the Leeward Coast to see tent after tent of homeless families to understand the need for affordable housing. Current trends in the marketplace have made homeownership virtually impossible for all in the 50% of median income range. The average home prices in Hawaii are soaring over $600,000 and there has been a large jump in rental prices.

In order to help solve the housing crisis on Oahu and provide affordable housing to low income families, the Leeward Habitat affiliate made a bold move and purchased a 3.21 acre parcel of land to create a 31 home subdivision. Homes will range from two to six bedrooms dependent on family size. In addition, families will be able to bring their children to play in a safe place in the common area park. The park will also serve as a storm drainage basin.

Leeward Habitat recently held three information sessions for families interested in applying for this project. Nearly 500 families attended in hopes of qualifying for an affordable Habitat home! The outpouring of need for affordable housing on the Leeward Coast is vast and critical.

The subdivision allows for the expansion of the mission of Habitat for Humanity Leeward Oahu. The affiliate can now focus on the neediest of families and not be limited in the number built to those having land.

Your Help to Complete this Project is Needed
Is there a more important investment you could make than one that helps create successful, healthy families and strengthens our communities? Is there a more important gift you can give to today’s children, and to those of future generations?

This three-year $5.75 million fundraising initiative is directed at helping families to build a better future for themselves. When completed, 31 families will have a simple, decent place to call home.

Please give to the Kaukamana Subdivision Project. Whatever level of your gift you deem appropriate, your participation in the Kaukamana Subdivision is important. Below are ways you can get involved:

Naming of the Subdivision:
Provide a naming gift payable over a three year period to total $2,000,000.

House Sponsors:
Provide financial support toward the construction of one of the 31 homes in the subdivision. A full house sponsorship is $90,000. Partial sponsorships are also available.

Matching Gifts:
You can leverage your own giving if your employer offers a gift matching program. You will be credited for the total amount, and your employer will also receive recognition in donor publications.

Pledges:
You may pledge an amount to the Campaign priority of your choice, and arrange to pay it in installments over three years.

In-Kind Donations:
Provide materials needed to build the homes. Lumber, windows, cabinets, paint, fixtures, sinks, etc… are all needed. All in-kind donations must first be approved by the affiliate and must be new materials.

Services:
Use your professional skill to help create this subdivision. Do what you do best! Leeward Habitat is in need of skilled persons to do the plumbing, electrical, masonry, demolition, and foundation work.
